Top Ten Songs of All Time!

A recent dinner with a friend from Washington DC got me thinking about music and my favorite songs of all time. Here is the critia: (excerpt from an email)

So your email got me contemplating my list of favorites. A rather dubious task that I thought would be simple. My criteria is pretty straightforward. Imagine you are on a desert island and someone is trying to torture you by playing the same song over and over and over again. What songs would be the antidote to their torture scheme ? in other words what songs have staying power.

I was surprised by my list. Some of my favorite artists, although I love their body of work, don't have a single song that would meet my criteria. Bands like, The Eagles, Styx and the Rolling Stones. Also some songs made the list and yet I am not particularly a big fan of the band. Journey is an example. However, Girl Can't Help It, is a song that whenever it comes on, I stop what I am doing, listen and turn up the stereo. There are not that many songs that get my attention like that.

So here is my list. Which was going to be Ten (10) then had to turn into Twenty (20) and could have been Fifty (50) but you have to draw the line somewhere.
